[ He traces over Mystery's skin and leans in, teeth dragging over his lower lip. Skin is warm under his fingertips and he smiles, sucking on his lower lip before easing away just enough to murmur against his mouth. ]
[sometimes, mystery isn't quite sure what to do when things like this happen. his heartbeat skips, but instead of letting it distract him, he surges forward, catches romance's mouth in another kiss after those teeth find his lower lip, then he draws back with a huff, both of his hands sliding up romance's back to grip his shirt.]
[ Romance thinks its fairly obvious what should be done, but in case Mystery is wondering, he stays pressed close, a little rock of his hips as he drapes himself all over Mystery. ]
I'll take good care of it, then. [ He reaches up, traces a fingertip down Mystery's cheek, over the line of his jaw. He's going to keep you. ]
[his hands immediately drop to romance's hips, fingers gripping tight as he rolls up to meet the motion, another breath catching in his throat when he does. he knows he probably looks like a gaping fish out of water, but he doesn't careโ he's just too enthralled with romance to be bothered by it.]
Do you promise? [mystery leans into the touch with a soft, breathy little noise, his eyes sinking shut. clearly, he wants to be kept, if his attempt at pressing impossibly closer is any indication.]
[ He looks beautiful, in Romance's very professional opinion. Lovely as sin. ]
I promise. [ He brushes his thumb over Mystery's lips, slow and sweeping, tipping his head to study him before leaning in to murmur in Mystery's ear (wherever it is). ] For as long as you let me.
[ or, you know. longer. because he's crazy and won't let go easy. ]
[funny, he was going to say the same for romance, even though he thinks he's prettier than he is.
mystery exhales a breath against romance's thumb, his head tilting down slightly, his attention lowering as well, at least until romance moves to murmur in his ear. he swallows hard, flexes his hands on romance's hips then moves them up his back again, reaching until he can clasp his shoulders and hold on tight.] For however long you want me.
[which he has no idea how long that might last? people usually grow tired of him after a while and he's accepted that; it'd be far more surprising to have someone who will stay.]
[ His hand slides from Mystery's cheek through his hair to cup the back of his head, winding strands around his fingers to gently grip. A slight turn of his head has him pressing lips to Mystery's hair, a soft puff of warm breath slipping from between his lips.
He's going to be surprised when Romance is crawling all over him until the day they go to die. ]
[he stays very still for the moment, probably stiller than is necessary, but he doesn't want to disturb whatever it is romance is doing. those fingers grip his hair and he holds his breath, curling his fingers in romance's shirt, an exhale following his once he's realized that romance is just. holding him? like it's the only thing he'll ever do again.
and yes, he will be thoroughly surprised when that happens and completely heartbroken when they're torn apart.]
[ Romance is only holding him like the treasure he is, curling his hand around the back of his head, sliding an arm around his waist, pressing their heads together. Mystery is his precious jewel, and deserves to be treated as such.
Hence the soul eating. How dare that fool read bad poetry to his diamond? He deserved what he got. ]
[a slow, measured sigh leaves him and he moves to bury his face into romance's neck, warmth flooding throughout his entire body. he doesn't fully understand why romance chose him of all people, but he's not going to question that out loud or anything, not when it could be such a fragile thing, barely held together by the tiniest threads. romance matters to him so much, it aches.
and maybe some poor fool got eaten for it, sure, that doesn't mean mystery is ever going to wonder what this is, no matter how wild things might get.]
[ They certainly stumbled into this, now didn't they? Romance hadn't expected it. He'd only expected a little tryst, a night of fun, not to fall into Mystery so deeply he's not sure he can ever crawl his way out. ]
[they sure have, there's no denying it now. mystery hadn't expected it either, but he's not against it. in fact, if anything, he wants more time with romance, even if it means pushing other things aside. (is that fair? maybe not, though he doesn't care about that.)
he blinks lightly, tilting his head in a questioning manner.] No, it didn't seem that way. Not to me.
[mystery tries not to feel guilty about things, given who they are, but sometimes, those little pinpricks of humanity filter through the cracks and he can't fight them off quickly enough.
the fact that romance is apologizing to him is a little surprising, however.]
Are you certain? I'm willing to bet there's something I could do that might bother you. [not that he's going to try and do it on purpose, though.]
[ It's possible, everyone has their little peccadillos. But in the grand scheme of things, it's hard to see anything Mystery can do that would genuinely piss him off. ]
Although I know I can be a bit...much. [ It's a whole like, thing. ]
[it's a thoughtful little hum, but mystery doesn't argue. he doesn't know exactly what might set romance off, and again, he doesn't plan on doing anything to piss him off on purpose. he much prefers it when they are together, obviously.]

[ Again, everyone has their quirks, but...Mystery's behaviour mystifies him, but it isn't too much. It's sweet, and it makes Romance feel genuinely wanted instead of just...desired. ]

[being absolutely honest, it's worth a lot to mystery; romance makes him feel like he's not overdoing things and, if he is, he makes him feel normal about it. his obsession with romance doesn't feel weird, it feels... right.]
[just be himself? sure, it seems like romance is asking for so much in that moment, but with him, mystery feels like he could actually do that rather than try and pretend to be something he's not. nevertheless, he feels like he needs to be smaller, so he shrinks in on himself ever-so-slightly, though that doesn't stop him from twisting and burying his face into romance's shoulder, his words somewhat muffled.]
[ His brow furrows, and Romance eases back a little so that he can look at him properly, stroking his hair, fingers pushing up the back of his head, tangling gently. ]
[instinctively, mystery wants to squirm and fight and hide against romance again, but instead of doing that, he lets the hand in his hair hold him steady, his heartbeat skipping as he forces himself to meet romance's gaze through his bangs.]
I do, [he admits softly, a pause following afterward and his voice somehow lowering further before he continues,] but what if you don't like me anymore?
[ He pulls his fingers through Mystery's hair, working his way to the front so he can sweep it aside and look into those pretty eyes, thumb brushing his cheek, light as a breath. ]
I'm not going to stop liking you just because you've finally let me see you.
[ He breathes a soft laugh, holds Mystery ever tighter. ]
Sweetheart, that's not how I operate. [ Not when his feelings are involved. ]
[again, it's instinctive to pull back, but he resists a second time, blinking lightly as romance's thumb brushes across his cheek. he leans into the touch instead, exhaling a sigh and letting his eyes sink closed as he reaches to cup romance's hand to hold it against his face.
it's so strange, he feels so vulnerable, almost fragile in romance's hold, and yet he also feels strengthened by it, like nothing can tear him down now that he has romance's attention.
mystery takes a deep breath, holds it for a couple of seconds, then exhales, his other hand moving to press over his chest in an attempt to calm his racing heart. โsweetheartโ, โdarlingโ, all these nicknames are going to truly be the death of him.]
I believe you. [even if part of him is still so worried about something that probably shouldn't be a second thought in his mind.]
[ Romance has spent a long time figuring people out, what makes them tick, insecurities, likes and dislikes, dreams and aspirations, fears. Mostly, he uses it against them, but it isn't like that with Mystery. Or the others, he has no reason to, but especially with Mystery.
And he can tell he's worried about something, he just isn't certain what. Losing one another...always a possibility. A breakup...unlikely. Not liking him anymore? Even more unlikely. Once Romance gets his claws in someone, it's almost impossible to pry him away. He just isn't sure, but pushing isn't going to help.
He reaches out, rests his hand over the one on Mystery's chest, fingers curling. ]
